HOW TO ADOPT FROM THE BROWARD COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER

The Humane Society of Broward County is committed to providing shelter, aid, and responsible adoptions to animals in the care of the facility, as well as educating the community about the importance of respecting and being kind to all animals. The Humane Society strives to create a better world for animals and work tirelessly to ensure that they receive the care and love they deserve.

How To Adopt - The Process

If you do not have a Pre-Adoption Application on file with us within the past year or if you have recently moved, we ask that you complete a new application. You can find the application online and submit it once it is completed. Then, feel free to stop by our shelter anytime between 11am and 5:30pm to meet the animals. No appointment is necessary. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to give us a call at 954-989-3977 x6. We look forward to helping you find your new companion!

The Humane Society of Broward County requires fees for adopting an animal, which may vary based on the age and number of animals you wish to adopt. These fees may also include additional services, such as spaying or neutering, flea/tick treatment, vaccinations, and wellness checks, to ensure the health and well-being of your new companion. By adopting a friend for life, you are not only giving a home to a deserving animal, but also supporting our efforts to provide care and protection for all animals.

A New Beginning: The Benefits of Adopting a Pet

Adopting a pet can be a rewarding and enriching experience for individuals and families. Not only do pets provide companionship and unconditional love, but they can also offer numerous benefits for mental and physical health.

Before adopting a pet, it is important to carefully consider the type of animal that will best fit your lifestyle and living situation. Dogs and cats are popular choices, but there are also many other options such as birds, rabbits, rodents, and reptiles.

Once you have chosen the type of pet you would like to adopt, it is important to do your research and select a reputable breeder or adoption agency. Adopting from a shelter not only gives a homeless animal a second chance, but it also helps to support efforts to rescue and care for abandoned or neglected animals.

Before bringing your new pet home, it is important to prepare your living space and purchase necessary supplies such as a bed, food and water dishes, toys, and a litter box (for cats). It is also a good idea to have your pet spayed or neutered to help control the pet population and prevent certain health problems.

Caring for a pet requires a commitment of time, money, and effort, but the rewards of having a furry (or feathered) friend are well worth it. Adopting a pet can bring joy and happiness to your life and create a strong bond between you and your new companion.
